Fab Lab/Wood Shop Safety Rules
Every year, more than 400,000 people are injured from the misuse of woodworking machines & tools. The three biggest causes are:
- Inattention resulting from repetition
- An unexpected event
- Inexperience or overconfidence while using woodworking tools
Please consider “Safety” before you do anything in the shop!
Fab Lab/Wood Shop General Rules
This facility offered by Circuit Launch to be used by its members & guests. It is considered a privilege to use the shop and it is expected that it will be used in accordance with all safety rules as determined by Circuit Launch. Any willful misuse of the shop or deviation from the safety rules will result in suspension of an individual’s shop privileges.
General Safety
- All persons must wear safety glasses in the wood shop.
- Working with wood is dusty. Wearing a dust mask is strongly recommended. Exotic wood dust can be aggravating to the lungs and cause an allergic reaction.
- Appropriate attire must be worn while working in the wood shop. No jewelry, long sleeves or baggy clothes may be worn when working with power tools. Long hair must be tied back and no open-toed shoes.
- No one is permitted to remove a safety guard from any tool without permission.
- No adjustments or repairs are to be made to any tools/equipment except by Circuit Launch staff.
- Never talk to anyone using a power tool until they are finished with their tool action.
- Shop users are responsible for immediately cleaning up their work area and the tools when done. Hand brooms, a Shop-Vac, hand-vac, dustpans and an air home are provided. Failure to clean up can result in suspension of shop privileges.
